But that sentiment serves to show how deep this hypnotism is ingrained in our psyches. I have no experience of war, I have used an air rifle, I have fired blanks during exercises playing soldiers for the CCF at my public school and once, I was a guest at the SAS training camp in Hereford, where I fired an automatic weapon at a paper target. Nathan Mayer Rothschild, the banking familys 19th-century patriarch, and James William Freshfield, founder of Freshfields, the top City law firm, benefited financially from slavery, records from the National Archives show, even though both have often been portrayed as opponents of slavery.
